1. In my first picture, I took a picture of a toy car from eye level. I used the rule of thirds on the back tire of the car to make it positioned in an area of the photo to make it look the best. The point of view I used in the picture is at eye level from the side to make it look like I was as small as the car. There is alot of negative space in the background that is blurred and is out of focus. There is a small depth of field, and abig contrast between the positive and negative space. Also, the foreground is focused and the background is not. The photo is appealing because it has an interesting point of view that makes you look like the size of the toy car.
2. In my second photo, I chose a picture of the rocks in my backyard. This picture to me is compositionally sound, and it has a pattern of the rocks. It also has texture of the different rocks that shows the design and look of each rock. I used a small depth of field because there are still hundreds of rocks available to the eye. There is a contrast between the rocks that are grey or white and the rocks that are orange. The contrast also shows the difference between the colored rocks and the grey and white rocks. The rocks show an unexpected composition because rocks are not thought of when you think about strong photos.
3. My third photograph is the telephone in my homeroom. I chose to use this in my portfolio because there is a collection of different shapes and lines all around the picture. Also, I put the phone on an intersection of the thirds in the frame to give some composition to the picture. There was about a three foot distance away from the wall when I took the picture. The picture has a black and white contrast from the black phone to the white wall. Also, the photo has a fast shutter speed because it is a dull photo with a clear image. The lighting also makes it dull because there was not alot of light captured by the camera. In my opinion, there is a sense of meaning that signifies mystery, like you are waiting for a call that you do not want to recieve.
4. In this photo, I am portrayed with light around me. I used two flashlights to make wings out of the light. There is alot of negative space behind me where it is dark. There is a contrast of black and white because of the light and the darkness behind me. Also, my shirt is white, so it adds more contrast to the composition. The camera shutter speed is slow so the camera can capture as much light as possible. There is a blurred view of my arms on the side of me from them moving which adds another element to my picture. Also, there wasnt any lighting to make the light from the flashlights as prominent as possible. There is a sense of humor in my composition because of the buttterfly mask on my face. I believe this is my strongest composition because it inclused several elements we talked about in class.
5. My next puicture of Conor is a picture that I liked when it was first taken. It was taken within a few feet of Conor, and it is him kicking a ball into the air. He is in the foreground, and there is a bus driving by in the background. Alot of space is around and behind him in the picture, but he is the main thing in the picture. There was a fast shutter speed used because everything in the photo is stopped in motion and is clearly visible. There is a large depth of field because you can see a large amount of the street and parking lot behind him. The picture has an interesting point of view because it looks like a defender looking at him while he is kicking the ball into the air.
6. My final picture in the portfolio is of the clouds in the sky with trees on the bottom. This is my favorite picture because it is a simple picture that shows nature well. It has the trees in the foreground, the building in the middleground, and the clouds are off in the background. The texture of the trees are visible, as you can see the shape and apppearance of the branches. The trees are in focus, and the wind makes them look like they are captured in motion. Also, there is a contrast between the dark green of the trees, and the soft blue of the sky. The subject matter is shot from the ground, but it makes the trees look like they are part of the sky. The clouds give an appealing view because they have a pink and orange tint to them because of where the sun is positioned.
